ALEXANDRIA, Va., July 3 -- United States Patent no. 12,344,780, issued on July 1, was assigned to BIO-RAD LABORATORIES INC. (Hercules, Calif.).

"Polymer dots" was invented by Christopher Belisle (Walnut Creek, Calif.), Praveena D. Garimella (Lafayette, Calif.) and Leila Amery Ranis (Pinole, Calif.).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "Polymer dots comprising a functionalized fluorescent polymer and an amphiphilic molecule are provided."

The patent was filed on Aug. 7, 2020, under Application No. 16/987,441.
