ALEXANDRIA, Va., July 23 -- United States Patent no. 12,364,844, issued on July 22, was assigned to Becton Dickinson and Co. (Franklin Lakes, N.J.).
"Needle capture safety interlock for catheter" was invented by Siddarth Shevgoor (Mission Viejo, Calif.), John Stokes (Pleasant View, Utah) and Weston Harding (Lehi, Utah).
According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "A clip used in a catheter assembly, the clip comprising a first leg and a second leg angularly connected to the first leg, wherein the second leg includes a substantially U-shaped spade configured to engage a needle housing of the catheter assembly to secure the clip to the needle housing."
