ALEXANDRIA, Va., Feb. 19 -- United States Patent no. 12,227,598, issued on Feb. 18, was assigned to BAUSCH & LOMB Inc. (Rochester, N.Y.).

"Glycophospholipid polymeric network and use thereof" was invented by Alok Kumar Awasthi (Pittsford, N.Y.), James Anthony DiBella Jr. (Penfield, N.Y.), Mark R. Mis (Rush, N.Y.), Alai Musleh (Rochester, N.Y.) and George L. Grobe III (Ontario, N.Y.).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "A biomedical device having a coating on a surface thereof, where the coating includes a glycophospholipid polymer which is a reaction product of one or more glycosaminoglycans and one or more phospholipids."
