ALEXANDRIA, Va., June 19 -- United States Patent no. 12,331,306, issued on June 17, was assigned to BASF Agricultural Solutions US LLC (Research Triangle Park, N.C.).

"Herbicide tolerant plants expressing a cyanobacterial plastoquinone biosynthetic pathway" was invented by Manuel Dubald (Raleigh, N.C.).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "A method for conferring tolerance to a 4-hydroxyphenylpyruvate dioxygenase (HPPD) inhibitor herbicide in a plant by expressing one or more polypeptide components of an exogenous plastoquinone-9 pathway in the plant. Nucleic acids, vectors, transgenic cells and transgenic plants useful in such a method are also disclosed."
