ALEXANDRIA, Va., March 26 -- United States Patent no. 12,260,768, issued on March 25, was assigned to BAE Systems PLC (London).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "A signal transmitting device is provided for communicating with an aircraft in the vicinity of a landing area. The signal transmitting device is configured to receive a signal from the aircraft and further configured to transmit a return signal to the aircraft automatically upon receipt of the signal. The return signal comprises information regarding the landing area."
