ALEXANDRIA, Va., March 26 -- United States Patent no. 12,259,121, issued on March 25, was assigned to Axxiom Manufacturing Inc. (Fresno, Texas).

"Light assembly with sacrificial lens" was invented by Phuong Taylor Nguyen (Richmond, Texas), Jeffrey Wayne Hummel (Alvin, Texas) and Bryan Barbin (Raymond, N.H.).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "A light assembly that includes a main housing having an illumination module disposed within the main housing. There is an end cap coupled with the main housing in a manner to form a lens cavity proximate a forward end of the illumination module. There is a sacrificial lens disposed in the lens cavity. The sacrificial lens includes a removable layer."
