ALEXANDRIA, Va., June 12 -- United States Patent no. 12,297,371, issued on May 13, was assigned to AWI Licensing LLC (Wilmington, Del.).
"Antimicrobial and antiviral building panels" was invented by Michelle X. Wang (Lititz, Pa.), Ying Chang (Lancaster, Pa.), John E. Hughes (Lincoln University, Pa.), Linzhu Zhang (Pittsburgh) and Steven L. Masia (Lancaster, Pa.).
According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "Described herein is a building panel comprising: a substrate, and a coating applied to the substrate, the coating comprising a blend of an antimicrobial composition, a binder, and a pigment, wherein the antimicrobial composition consists essentially of zinc borate."
