ALEXANDRIA, Va., June 12 -- United States Patent no. 12,298,541, issued on May 13, was assigned to Avery Dennison Corp. (Mentor, Ohio).

"Retroreflective films comprising fluorescent dyes" was invented by Michael E. Hannington (Madison, Ohio), Nipa Joshi (Schaumburg, Ill.) and Guang-Xue Wei (Buffalo Grove, Ill.).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "Provided herein is a retroreflective film comprising one or more layers (or coating layers) including a small quantity of fluorescent dye that shifts color readings (e.g., chromaticity coordinates) in specific regions located within a color space to comply with industry standards (e.g., United States, Europe, China and Brazil) while improving luminance fac...
