ALEXANDRIA, Va., Aug. 12 -- United States Patent no. 12,385,023, issued on Aug. 12, was assigned to AUBURN UNIVERSITY (Auburn, Ala.).
"CRISPR-Cas system for clostridium genome engineering and recombinant strains produced thereof" was invented by Yi Wang (Auburn, Ala.) and Jie Zhang (Auburn, Ala.).
According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "A system for modifying the genome of Clostridium strains is provided based on a modified endogenous CRISPR array. The application also describes Clostridium strains modified for enhanced butanol production wherein the modified strains are produced using the novel CRISPR-Cas system."
The patent was filed on Sept. 8, 2021, under Application No. 17/469,386.
