ALEXANDRIA, Va., Dec. 16 -- United States Patent no. 12,496,105, issued on Dec. 16, was assigned to ARTHREX INC. (Naples, Fla.).
"Devices for generating and applying compression within a body" was invented by Matthew Palmer (Cambridge, Mass.), Matthew Fonte (Concord, Mass.), Robert Devaney (Auburndale, Mass.) and Kaitlyn Nealon (Boston).
According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "This disclosure describes exemplary screw and intramedullary devices that are better able to bring bone fragments into close proximity with each other, generate a compressive load, and maintain that compressive load for a prolonged period of time while healing occurs.
