ALEXANDRIA, Va., June 19 -- United States Patent no. 12,329,369, issued on June 17, was assigned to ARTERICA INC. (Santa Rosa, Calif.).
"Tissue closure device" was invented by Henrik Nyman (Olofstorp, Sweden), Robert G. Whirley (Petaluma, Calif.), Cecilia Larzon (Stockholm) and Joseph W. Humphrey (Santa Rosa, Calif.).
According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "Device and method embodiments discussed herein are directed to mechanical closure of an access passage in a tissue layer adjacent to an access hole in a vessel such as an artery or vein of a patient. Some of these embodiments may also be applicable to direct closure of a vessel wall in some instances."
