ALEXANDRIA, Va., April 2 -- United States Patent no. 12,267,244, issued on April 1, was assigned to ARISTA NETWORKS INC. (Santa Clara, Calif.).

"Next hop groups" was invented by Kenneth James Duda (Santa Clara, Calif.).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "In general, the invention relates to a method for programming a network device to perform routing of data packets between and/or within networks. More specifically, the method provides a more efficient process for updating the forwarding equivalence class (FEC) table with minimal impacting of the mappings in the forward information base (FIB) of the network device."

The patent was filed on July 26, 2021, under Application No. 17/385,516.
