ALEXANDRIA, Va., July 9 -- United States Patent no. 12,354,557, issued on July 8, was assigned to Applied Materials Inc. (Santa Clara, Calif.).

"Thin film transistors for circuits for use in display devices" was invented by Dong Kil Yim (Pleasanton, Calif.), Soo Young Choi (Fremont, Calif.) and Jung Bae Kim (San Jose, Calif.).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "Disclosed herein is a device including a driving thin film transistor. The driving thin film transistor includes a metal oxide channel, a source electrode in contact with the driving metal oxide channel, and a top gate electrode disposed above the metal oxide channel and physically connected to the driving source electrode."
