ALEXANDRIA, Va., Sept. 23 -- United States Patent no. 12,425,771, issued on Sept. 23, was assigned to Apple Inc. (Cupertino, Calif.).

"Un-tethered wireless audio system" was invented by Clarke S. Watson (San Carlos, Calif.), Benjamin W. Cook (San Francisco), Axel D. Berny (Los Gatos, Calif.) and Jason A. Trachewsky (Cupertino, Calif.).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "A wireless speaker audio system configured to receive audio information wirelessly transmitted by an audio source including first and second wireless transceivers. The first wireless transceiver establishes a bidirectional secondary wireless link with the audio source for receiving and acknowledging receipt of the audio information....
