ALEXANDRIA, Va., June 12 -- United States Patent no. 12,300,944, issued on May 13, was assigned to Apple Inc. (Cupertino, Calif.).
"Protection circuits for untethered cables" was invented by Denver E. Cohen (Cresskill, N.J.), Breton M. Saunders (Los Gatos, Calif.) and Srivatsav Venkatesan (Cupertino, Calif.).
According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "Circuits, methods, and apparatus that can provide an untethered cable that can safely provide power using a variety of power adapters, can protect users from voltages at exposed contacts of a connector insert, and can disconnect from a power adapter when damage to the cable is detected."
