ALEXANDRIA, Va., March 19 -- United States Patent no. 12,256,212, issued on March 18, was assigned to Apple Inc. (Cupertino, Calif.).

"Logic for reverberation time estimation" was invented by Benjamin Bernard (Monaco, Monaco), Prateek Murgai (San Francisco), Juha O. Merimaa (San Mateo, Calif.), Jonathan D. Sheaffer (San Jose, Calif.) and Soenke Pelzer (Los Gatos, Calif.).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "A plurality of microphone signals of a microphone array may be obtained. An environment change may be detected based on the microphone signals. In response, a reverberation time environment may be determined. The reverberation may be used to modify a playback audio signal."
