ALEXANDRIA, Va., June 4 -- United States Patent no. 12,324,325, issued on June 3, was assigned to Apple Inc. (Cupertino, Calif.).

"Ambient light sensing display assemblies" was invented by Mohammad Yeke Yazdandoost (San Jose, Calif.), Giovanni Gozzini (Berkeley, Calif.) and Volodymyr Borshch (Cupertino, Calif.).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "Systems, methods, and computer-readable media for sensing ambient light with a display assembly are provided. A display assembly may include at least one light-generating component and at least one light-detecting component, each of which may be positioned underneath a single opening in an electronic device housing."
