US Patent Issued to Apple on June 17 for "Emotion detection" (California Inventor)

ALEXANDRIA, Va., June 19 -- United States Patent no. 12,333,858, issued on June 17, was assigned to Apple Inc. (Cupertino, Calif.).

"Emotion detection" was invented by Olivier Soares (San Jose, Calif.).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "Estimating emotion may include obtaining an image of at least part of a face, and applying, to the image, an expression convolutional neural network ("CNN") to obtain a latent vector for the image, where the expression CNN is trained from a plurality of pairs each comprising a facial image and a 3D mesh representation corresponding to the facial image.
