ALEXANDRIA, Va., June 9 -- United States Patent no. 12,287,944, issued on April 29, was assigned to Apple Inc. (Cupertino, Calif.).
"Continuous touch input over multiple independent surfaces" was invented by Reuben J. Williams (Mountain View, Calif.), Clark E. Waterfall (Mountain View, Calif.), Eng Eow Goh (San Jose, Calif.) and Karan S. Jain (San Jose, Calif.).
According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "Touch input devices are provided with the capability of sensing a capacitive load in a two-dimensional array while also being able to sense deflection or movement of the input device in multiple different locations under an input pad. A touch input device can beneficially be used in a remote control device...
