ALEXANDRIA, Va., March 19 -- United States Patent no. 12,251,483, issued on March 18, was assigned to APJeT Inc. (Morrisville, N.C.).

"Gliding arc discharge sterilization of surfaces, objects, and ambient air" was invented by David W. Tyner (Benson, N.C.), Gregory A. Roche (Durham, N.C.) and Preston A. Roche (Chapel Hill, N.C.).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "Apparatus for sterilizing surfaces and apparatus for sterilizing air and enclosed objects using gliding arc discharge technology are described, whereby disinfecting products formed in the discharge are prevented from escaping from the apparatus into the ambient air."
