ALEXANDRIA, Va., Feb. 11 -- United States Patent no. 12,547,722, issued on Feb. 10, was assigned to AMERICAN MEGATRENDS INTERNATIONAL LLC (Duluth, Ga.).

"Firmware binary scanning for programmable devices" was invented by Chitrak Gupta (Johns Creek, Ga.) and Venkatesan Balakrishnan (Chennai, India).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "A BMC determines that a binary image for a device of a host computer is to be updated. The BMC scans the binary image for malicious code using a binary scanning application. The BMC prevents updating the device with the binary image in response to detecting malicious code in the binary image during the scanning."
