ALEXANDRIA, Va., June 25 -- United States Patent no. 12,338,224, issued on June 24, was assigned to Amazentis SA (Lausanne, Switzerland).
"Process-scale synthesis of urolithin A" was invented by Wolfgang Skranc (Vienna), George Yiannikouros (Florence, S.C.), Alexander Trofimov (Florence, S.C.), Zhixing Shan (Albany, N.Y.) and Christopher Goss (Florence, S.C.).
According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "Methods for preparing a salt of urolithin A and, in turn, urolithin A. Combining in an alkaline aqueous solution a copper-containing catalyst, 2-bromo-5-hydroxybenzoic acid, and resorcinol produces a salt of urolithin A. Urolithin A has been prepared by protonating a salt of the compound."
