ALEXANDRIA, Va., June 10 -- United States Patent no. 12,291,715, issued on May 6, was assigned to Altria Client Services LLC (Richmond, Va.).

"Genetic locus imparting a low anatabine trait in tobacco and methods of using" was invented by Chengalrayan Kudithipudi (Midlothian, Va.), Alec J. Hayes (Chesterfield, Va.), Robert Frank Hart III (Midlothian, Va.), Yanxin Shen (Glen Allen, Va.), Jesse Frederick (Richmond, Va.) and Dongmei Xu (Glen Allen, Va.).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "Provided herein are genetic markers and a coding sequence associated with a low- or ultra-low anatabine trait in tobacco."
