ALEXANDRIA, Va., Sept. 30 -- United States Patent no. 12,428,876, issued on Sept. 30, was assigned to Altor Locks LLC (Sterling, Va.).

"Grinder resistant lock" was invented by Dylan Cato (Sterling, Va.) and Karen Schaufeld (Leesburg, Va.).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "U-shaped locks are provided with an external shell made from a relatively soft metal that clogs grindings disks and reduces their cutting effectiveness."

The patent was filed on Sept. 13, 2019, under Application No. 17/280,879.
