ALEXANDRIA, Va., July 23 -- United States Patent no. 12,365,830, issued on July 22, was assigned to Alliance for Sustainable Energy LLC (Golden, Colo.).

"Ligand-exchangeable janus nanoparticles and methods of making the same" was invented by Matthew Craig Beard (Arvada, Colo.), Marissa Sally Martinez (Wheat Ridge, Colo.) and Zhiyuan Huang (Lakewood, Colo.).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "The present disclosure relates to a nanocrystal that includes a nanocrystal core, a first ligand coordinated to a first portion of a surface of the nanocrystal core, and a second ligand coordinated to a second portion of the surface, where the second ligand includes a first functionalized aromatic molecule."
