ALEXANDRIA, Va., July 30 -- United States Patent no. 12,374,681, issued on July 29, was assigned to ALBEMARLE Corp. (Charlotte, N.C.).

"Methods for prelithiating electrodes using lithium silicon alloys" was invented by Yinzhi Zhang (Charlotte, N.C.), Kristina L. Butler (Gastonia, N.C.) and Jeffrey McCall (Kings Mountain, N.C.).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "Methods are provided for prelithiating an electrode by contacting the electrode with a plurality of particles of one or more LixSiy alloys having specified lithium content and particle sizes."

The patent was filed on Aug. 31, 2018, under Application No. 16/642,207.
