ALEXANDRIA, Va., March 12 -- United States Patent no. 12,250,379, issued on March 11, was assigned to Advanced Micro Devices Inc. (Santa Clara, Calif.).
"Region-based image decompression" was invented by Andrew S. Pomianowski (Bellevue, Wash.) and Konstantine Iourcha (Santa Clara, Calif.).
According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "A method and an apparatus for decoding an image are disclosed. A region of the image is selected and the decoding is selected region and associated metadata is performed. Pixels for a generated for a decoded image based on the decoded selected region and metadata."
The patent was filed on Nov. 11, 2022, under Application No. 17/985,679.
