ALEXANDRIA, Va., July 16 -- United States Patent no. 12,360,907, issued on July 15, was assigned to Advanced Micro Devices Inc. (Santa Clara, Calif.).

"Region pattern-matching hardware prefetcher" was invented by Gabriel H. Loh (Bellevue, Wash.), Marko Scrbak (Austin, Texas), Akhil Arunkumar (Sunnyvale, Calif.) and John Kalamatianos (Boxborough, Mass.).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "A method for performing prefetching operations is disclosed. The method includes storing a recorded access pattern indicating a set of accesses for a region; in response to an access within the region, fetching the recorded access pattern; and performing prefetching based on the access pattern."
