ALEXANDRIA, Va., June 5 -- United States Patent no. 12,277,643, issued on April 15, was assigned to Advanced Micro Devices Inc. (Santa Clara, Calif.).
"Variable bit Morton codes" was invented by Ali Arda Eker (Bellevue, Wash.).
According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "A technique for performing ray tracing operations is provided. The technique includes determining a set of keys and a set of values corresponding to dimensions of a bounding box for a scene; sorting the set of keys and the set of values to generate a sorted set of values; and based on the sorted set of values, generating a Morton code for a triangle of the scene."
The patent was filed on Oct. 28, 2022, under Application No. 17/976,681.
