"Cervical cage" was invented by John R. Ehteshami (Paradise Valley, Ariz.) and Mahyar Zoghi (Phoenix).
According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "The present invention relates to an implantable cervical cage having a flexible posterior plate allowing for posterior displacement or movement of the cage. The posterior plate having certain structures and features that allow for hinge-like movements, the structures may include separate or separable structures that abut along the length of the posterior plate."
