ALEXANDRIA, Va., Oct. 28 -- United States Patent no. 12,453,393, issued on Oct. 28, was assigned to Acushnet Co. (Fairhaven, Mass.).

"Golf shoe with spring plate" was invented by Keith M. Duffy (Whitman, Mass.), Robert S. Bento (Raynham, Mass.) and Jean-Marie Bidal (Marlborough, Mass.).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "A golf shoe with an upper and a sole assembly connected to the upper. The sole assembly may include a midsole and an outsole. In some cases, a custom insert may be integrated with or embedded in the sole assembly. In some cases, the custom insert may include an elastic member configured as a spring element."
