ALEXANDRIA, Va., June 12 -- United States Patent no. 12,296,240, issued on May 13, was assigned to Acushnet Co. (Fairhaven, Mass.).
"Golf club having removable weight" was invented by Richard L. Cleghorn (Oceanside, Calif.), David Cornelius (San Marcos, Calif.), Hiroshi Kawaguchi (Aliso Viejo, Calif.) and Dustin Barksdale (San Marcos, Calif.).
According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "A golf club head includes a club head body and a weight member that is secured to the body. The weight member is constructed to utilize lateral forces to couple to the head body to minimize the structure required to retain the weight member, and the weight member is preferably constructed so that it has a low profile."
