ALEXANDRIA, Va., June 25 -- United States Patent no. 12,337,213, issued on June 24, was assigned to Acushnet Co. (Fairhaven, Mass.).

"Golf balls having cores with increased hardness gradient" was invented by Erin McDermott (Providence, R.I.), Manjari Kuntimaddi (Raynham, Mass.) and Dennis Britton (North Dartmouth, Mass.).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "Golf balls having cores with increased hardness gradients are provided. The cores have an increased "positive" hardness gradient (or a "hard-to-soft" hardness) where the outer surface of the core is harder than the center.
