ALEXANDRIA, Va., Sept. 17 -- United States Patent no. 12,416,044, issued on Sept. 16, was assigned to AbClonal Science Inc. (Woburn, Mass.).

"T4 DNA ligase variants with increased ligation efficiency" was invented by Zhenyu Zhu (Lynnfield, Mass.), Aine Quimby (Newburyport, Mass.), Dapeng Sun (Lexington, Mass.) and Alicia DiCicco (Salem, Mass.).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "The invention includes a mutant T4 DNA ligase or a biologically active fragment thereof, which has greater activity than wild type T4 DNA ligase. The mutant T4 DNA ligase, or the biologically active fragment, has one or more substitutions differing from the wild type, as described more fully in the Summary."
