ALEXANDRIA, Va., June 16 -- United States Patent no. 12,305,293, issued on May 20, was assigned to AB Sandvik Coromant (Sandviken, Sweden).

"Coated cutting tool" was invented by Linus Von Fieandt (Uppsala, Sweden), Raluca Morjan Brenning (Uppsala, Sweden) and Jan Engqvist (Uppsala, Sweden).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "A coated cutting tool is CVD coated and includes a substrate of a cemented carbide, wherein the metallic binder in the cemented carbide Includes Ni. The CVD coating includes an inner layer of TiN and a subsequent layer of TiCN."

The patent was filed on May 26, 2020, under Application No. 17/613,152.
