ALEXANDRIA, Va., June 18 -- United States Patent no. 12,325,177, issued on June 10, was assigned to 3M Innovative Properties Co. (St. Paul, Minn.).
"Microfractured film and method for making" was invented by Andrew P. Singer (St. Paul, Minn.) and Thomas E. Pahl (Cottage Grove, Minn.).
According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "A method for imparting hand-tearability to an organic polymeric film by impinging a multiplicity of ceramic microblades on a major surface of the organic polymeric film. The resulting microfractured organic polymeric film can be used as a hand-tearable tape backing for a hand-tearable adhesive tape."
The patent was filed on March 27, 2019, under Application No. 17/042,758.
