ALEXANDRIA, Va., July 9 -- United States Patent no. 12,353,061, issued on July 8, was assigned to 3M Innovative Properties Co. (St. Paul, Minn.).

"Universal-fit eyeglasses" was invented by Laurent Froissard (Cottage Grove, Minn.) and Laurel A. Alvarez (Woodbury, Minn.).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "Eyeglasses with a flare-nose aperture in which is positioned a nosepiece that has left and right nosepads each comprising a generally U-shaped cross section and being made of a compliant material wherein the flare-nose aperture is defined by at least abridge portion of a frame and laterally-inward terminal edges of left and right lenses."
