According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "The present invention relates to a locking garbage can device primarily comprised of a garbage can body with at least one actuator catch, a lid comprised of at least one rod with at least one actuator magnet, and a housing with at least one housing magnet. The lid is comprised of a magnetic locking mechanism that repels the actuator magnet of the rod via like-poled magnetic fields into a catch located in the garbage can body such that the lid cannot be removed from the body.
