According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "The present invention is directed to a sole structure and an article of footwear having the sole structure. The footwear can be used as a dance or a general shoe. The sole structure includes protruding platforms arranged, oriented, and dimensioned to permit ruggedness, dancing, and substantial grippiness for both dance moves as well as general wear."
