According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "A fusion device assembly for fusion of a joint, including a self-harvesting fusion device, including a distal end, a proximal end, a radially outward facing surface including threading, a bore extending from the proximal end, at least one aperture, and at least one flute arranged at least partially adjacent the at least one aperture and operatively arranged to direct bone material into the bore."
