"Appliance door ventilating screen assembly" was invented by Tracy Hoefling (Bratenahl, Ohio).
According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "A venting apparatus is provided to vent an associated appliance such as a washing machine. The venting apparatus includes a frame dimensioned to fit over an associated opening to the associated appliance cavity. A perforated screen is secured to the frame and dimensioned to substantially cover the associated opening when the frame is fit over the associated opening of the associated appliance cavity."
