"Medical access garment" was invented by Treva McCray (Effingham, S.C.).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "A medical access garment includes a unitary front panel having a first plurality of fasteners arrayed along a left edge and a right edge; a unitary back panel having a second plurality of fasteners mated to the first plurality of fasteners along a left edge and a right edge; and an elastic member joining the unitary front panel to the unitary back panel. The unitary front panel and the unitary back panel when in a fastened position form openings for a patient's torso and extremities."
