"Barbecue grill accessory and method for preparing food" was invented by Michael David Parrish (Concord, N.C.) and Aaron Michael Lyons (Farwell, Mich.).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "A grilling insert is adapted for use in a barbecue grill having a recessed cooking chamber. The grilling insert includes a thermal barrier having an open top, spaced apart side walls, and a substantially V-shaped cross-section. A radiant heat chamber is located adjacent the thermal barrier and is formed by vertical walls to define a divided cooking section of the recessed cooking chamber."
