According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "An apparatus for attaching a fishing hook to a bait or lure has a base having a flat bottom surface. The bottom surface has slots on opposed sides and an opening. A post is attached to or is formed with the base and extends perpendicularly to the surface.
