According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "Flying discs with different rim shapes in grip sectors and non-grip sectors. This may provide a comfortable throwing grip on a given disc while allowing desired flight characteristics (that may not match the grip shape) due to differing rim wing shapes in non-grip sectors. A set of discs may have the same grip width and shape but different widths and shapes in non-grip sectors.
