According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "Various implementations include a folding blade attachment device. The device includes a body having a first portion and a second portion extending along opposing sides of the blade. Each of the first and second portions define a thumb stud opening. The body has a proximate end and a distal end configured to be closer to a tip of the blade. When the body is coupled to the blade, each of the thumb stud openings accepts a thumb stud extending from opposing sides of the blade to hingedly couple the device to the blade. ...
