According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "A finishing tape is disclosed for use in positioning fasteners for securing building elements. The finishing tape further provides masking for immediate coating of the fastener or plug after installation. The finishing tape is formed from a flexible substrate having pressure-sensitive adhesive attached to a back side for adhesion to building construction materials and indicia imprinted on a top side.
