According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "The present device described herein is intended to effect the removal of an orthopedic prosthetic implant from the intramedullary cavity of the bone. The extraction device utilizes a clamping mechanism which can be tightly secured to the implant, particularly the neck of a femoral prosthetic component. The clamping mechanism is attached to an elongated member that contains two striking surfaces.
