According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "In a compound bow, an axle, having threaded ends, is pushed through a hole in a cam. Cam spacers, having internal threads, are screwed onto the ends of the axle until the ends of the cam spacers abut the cam. The cam can rotate freely around the unthreaded middle portion of the axle. The ends of the cam spacers go into holes in limb brackets attached to the bow's resilient limb ends.
