According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "Grout pipes placed within a fill could be damaged by the fill as it is being placed over the pipe, the pipe needs protection until it is used. In addition, the grouting pipes needs multiple outlets to ensure that the grout flows through the voids in the fill.
